When Your Old Identity No Longer Fits

Feb 13, 2026

After a short summer pause, I’m back with a new episode I’ve been sitting with for some time.

We’re all familiar with the term “midlife crisis.”

The moment we realise time is moving faster than we expected, and we begin asking harder questions:

Who am I now?

Who do I want to be in this one precious life?

Some people sign up for marathons.

Some buy sports cars (or motorbikes in my husband’s case).

Some leave careers, relationships, cities.

But what if what’s happening beneath the surface isn’t a crisis at all?

What if it’s an expansion?

Midlife, and other major transitions often usher us into something I call the chrysalis. A liminal space. The in-between.

The messy middle where parts of your identity no longer fit… but the next version of you hasn’t fully formed.

You may have been known as the high achiever - and now crave simplicity and slowing down.

You may have built a life around pleasing others - and now you care less about what others think.

You may simply sense that the old motivations don’t land the same way.

This space is uncomfortable.

It can feel slow.

Uncertain.

Even frustrating.

I know it well myself.

In this week’s podcast episode, When Your Old Identity No Longer Fits, I explore:

  • Why identity shifts are a natural part of growth
  • The neurological changes that occur in midlife (especially for women)
  • Why your old version of success may feel outdated
  • How to navigate the liminal space without forcing premature clarity
  • If you’re somewhere between who you’ve been and who you’re becoming, I hope this episode will resonate.

Much love,

Simone
